2 Hour Snowmobile Safari in the Polar Night

This safari is especially created for guests of the Hurtigruten arriving in Mehamn harbourat 01:15, but can also be participated by other guests. This adventure gives you a good opportunity to see the most amazing starlit sky as we are driving in the absolute darkness, with no disturbing light pollution. The safari starts at 01:00 in the morning atthe Nordic Safari Base changing room. Here you will get warm and comfortable snowmobile outfit and our professional guides will learn you all about safety and driving technique. We are driving 12 kilometresfrom the northermost fishing village on the European continent Mehamn, towards the fishing village Kjøllefjord. During the safari we will take a break in the mountainsbyour sami tent, where we have time to enjoy the nature and hopefully a starlit sky with flaming northern lights. Hot drinks will be served. We continue the safari to the road going to Kjøllefjord, after a short break we continue back to the starting point in Mehamn. Welcome to an unforgettable adventure!

Snowmobile Expedition in the land of Polarbears 5 days,4-6 Persons group

Available: End April to Middle ofMay I am happy to invite you to an exciting expedition on this archipelago located on the top of the world between 74° and 81° north. We will follow the footsteps of the first known visitor, the Dutch explorer, Wilhelm Barents. He discovered the islands in 1596. During the 17th century there was a large scale of whaling in the summer months and after that followed the trappers. In the 18th century, explorers like Umberto Nobile, Roald Amundsen & Fridtjof Nansen made the area famous (search for these names in the library – nice to know). In the 19th century, an American called John M. Longyear started mining coal and gave the Norwegian capitol its name – Longyearbyen. Today with 1000 inhabitants. In addition to the Norwegian mining town Longyearbyen, there is one Russian settlement -Barentsburg With 700-1000 inhabitants. The archipelago is under Norwegian sovereignity and ruled by Norwegian laws.
